Child Protection Duty of Care

 North Molton Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We have a statutory duty to report concerns raised that might indicate that a child is at risk of harm to the relevant authorities. In some circumstances we may do this without your consent and/or without informing you.

North Molton Primary School uses CPOMS for the monitoring of Safeguarding and Child Protection issues. Every member of staff across the school has an obligation to report any concerns which they may have using CPOMS. The system allows the School to record information in a central repository and have relevant people alerted immediately. Anyone who does not have access to CPOMS will be expected to fill in a school incident form (see below). There are printed versions of this in the staff room and at the school office. Staff, volunteers, trustees and members of the SCB must follow the procedures set out in our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy section 7, in the event of a safeguarding issue.

MASH – Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub

MASH is the central resource for the whole of Devon receiving all safeguarding and child protection enquiries. If you have any concerns about the welfare and safety of a child, please contact them on 0345 1551071.

Operation Encompass

​The school is part of Operation Encompass which runs jointly between schools and Devon and Cornwall Police. Operation Encompass is the early reporting to schools that a child or young person has been exposed to domestic abuse.

Prevent

Prevent is part of the UK government’s counter-terrorism strategy, CONTEST. Its aim is to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism.

From 1st July, the Counter Terrorism and Security Act 2015 places a statutory duty on specified authorities to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism”. The strategy involves thousands of people – police and intelligence officers, the emergency services, local authorities, businesses, voluntary and community organisations, governments and other partners – working in together across the UK and the world to protect the public.
